Brian Bourassa A true minimalist work, full of quiet (time for contemplation or reflection) these tracks are eclectic in nature, but not so dissonant as to startle you. There is as much or more silence in these works as there is sound and that makes for some very personal playtime, or interaction with the sound that each piece will promise to be very different each and every time you listen to it. Favorite track: Blizzard.

about

This was intended to be a homage to this year's crazy winter. Originally, I was going for a cross between black metal and traditional ambient but that wasn't working like I hoped it would and I went into a different direction. Also, I wasn't even planning on doing this album to begin with, as I had just finished an album that's going to be released at a later time (probably 2 or 3 months from now). Thankfully, I had enough ideas and I think this album turned out well. The icy conditions gave me plenty of inspiration.

Some notes about the tracks. Solo is just me on zither with some effects, which came out really well IMO. It's a true exercise in minimalism. Dark Forest is one of the darkest tracks I've done in a while and it took a while to get right but I'm proud of it now. The title track is probably my personal favorite, with the ambient textures and the zither coming together to create a classic Castleview soundscape. Blizzard is a blast of ambient sound that closes the album quite nicely.

It's not a long release but fans should enjoy it.

The CD Critic- 4/5

"‘Winter’ conjures up a cold and harsh image that is perfectely reminiscent of the previous months, and thus achieves what Castleview has set out to achieve on his new album. Considering the creative process that has gone into this album, it’d be interesting to see that process utilized once again, though perhaps in another style of ambient music that has been previous hinted upon. It’d certainly be interesting to see where Castleview takes his music next time."
